In Arizona at the Super Bowl, Chiefs RB Larry Johnson spoke with the Kansas City Star and broke down his 2007 season -- his worst as a starting RB -- and his mysterious foot injury. Johnson cited his holdout of training camp as a reason for his soft numbers, blaming the club for not signing him to a new deal sooner. As for his foot, Johnson said it was a freak injury. "I can't even tell you the medical term," Johnson said. "The bone in my fourth toe by the joint had a slight crack in it, and it shifted a little bit. ... No one knew what I had. You can't diagnose something and not know what it is. My foot was so swollen, no one knew what was going on. They thought it was a Lisfranc, they thought it was my heel, they thought it was my ankle. Until you get the CT scans and really rotate my foot with high technology ... it's very, very small, but youre not going to be able to see it. It looked worse than it was, but at the end of the day, we didn't know what was wrong." (Updated 01/31/2008).
Injury Report
Foot - Probable for the start of 2008 training camp (Updated - 1/31/08)
Fantasy Analysis
On the plus side, Johnson is on board with the new coaching staff members, including new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. Johnson expects the Chiefs to still be run-heavy in 2008, which suits him fine. In '07, Johnson made eight games and had 559 rush yards on 158 carries (3.5 avg.) with three touchdowns, and 186 receiving yards and a receiving TD on 30 receptions. Ultimately, a forgettable season for Johnson, but it doesn't mean he'll fall on Draft Day this summer. Assuming the Chiefs bulk up their offensive line and Johnson recovers from his foot injury, his versatility and potential to rack up yardage and touchdowns will be impossible to ignore. We still see Johnson as a No. 1 Fantasy RB worth a pick in the first round of every draft between seventh and 12th overall. (Updated 01/31/2008).
