The Boston Herald reports that Patriots TE Benjamin Watson had surgery on his left ankle recently and might miss the start of training camp. Watson had cartilage damage and scar tissue, according to several sources familiar with the surgery. When asked about it during the Pats' offseason conditioning program, Watson declined to comment. (Updated 03/27/2008).
Injury Report
Ankle - Questionable for the start of 2008 training camp (Updated - 3/27/08)
Fantasy Analysis
Watson got off to a great start in 2007, catching 18 passes for 222 yards and five touchdowns in his first six games before being limited with a chest injury. He was limited the rest of the season and finished with 18 catches for 167 yards and one touchdown. It sure looks like we can put the "injury-prone" tag on Watson considering that he has yet to play 16 games in a regular season. He might be rusty early on in 2008, but once he's healthy he'll be a useful low-end No. 1 Fantasy TE since Tom Brady likes to hit the tight end as part of the offense. When we know more about Watson, who is now a late-round pick, we'll deliver the news. (Updated 03/27/2008).
