Steelers rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall came down with a hamstring injury after his first day of minicamp Friday and did not practice Saturday, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Mendenhall missed both practices Saturday and the final minicamp practice Sunday. Tomlin hopes he will return when the Steelers resume their spring workouts in two weeks. (Updated 05/05/2008).
Injury Report
Hamstring - Probable for start of training camp (Updated - 5/5/08)
Fantasy Analysis
Mendenhall was drafted by the Steelers in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft and is expected to split time as the backup to starter Willie Parker. Clearly, the franchise wanted to add a running back to aid in the running game, a decision that will likely mean less reps -- and certainly less touchdowns -- for Parker. We still see Parker as the starter there, albeit as a 15-to-20 touch runner. Mendenhall will play a role but will have less of a workload. While Mendenhall makes for a decent middle-round pick (think Rounds 6 to 7), Parker slips into Round 3 to 4 territory as a top-end No. 3 Fantasy RB, a huge letdown from where he was one season ago (and keep in mind Parker totaled well over 1,000 yards last year).
