Steelers rookie Mendenhall robbed at gunpoint, unhurt

CHICAGO -- Pittsburgh Steelers first-round draft pick Rashard Mendenhall was robbed at gunpoint along the Chicago lakefront early Monday, his mother and agent said.

The former running back was not hurt in the robbery, during which two people stole Mendenhall's wallet and cellular telephone, his mother, Sybil Mendenhall, told the Chicago Tribune.

"He didn't get hit or anything, he didn't get hurt or anything," Sybil Mendenhall said. "He's fine."

Police spokesman John Mirabelli said a man and a woman were robbed at the lakefront around 2 a.m. Monday by two offenders, but declined to identify the victims. No one was in custody for the crime, he said.

"It was obviously a scary moment," Mendenhall's agent, Mike McCartney, told the Chicago Sun-Times. "But he is fine. He is doing great. He said he doesn't have anything that is worth his life."

The Steelers selected Mendenhall with the 23rd pick in this year's NFL draft.

The 20-year-old Mendenhall skipped his senior year at Illinois to enter the draft. He was the 2007 Big Ten offensive player of the year.

What Rashard Mendenhall went through was a classic case of trial and error.  He was out at a time that some may consider questionable at best, and he just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.  Plain and simple.

He is believed to be jealous with envy and was pondering a comeback with the Steelers until they drafted Mendenhall. This ruined any chance of that happening and being drunk on Mad Dog 20/20 felt that he could rob Mendenhall to get even.

Did Marvin Harrison have time to get out to Chicago after the shooting he committed in Philly?   It could have been him!

Ask Mendenhall if the robber had a custom made Belgian Rifle like Harrison's 50mm weapon.

Coincidence?

The Steelers draft a #1 RB to run all over Ray Lewis and the aging (if not already old) Baltimore Defense. Then that #1 RB and Ray Lewis both end up in Chicago on the same weekend, where that #1 RB is robbed at gun point.

Do you think...Nah ...(more)

I haven't read anything that says thank God he is still alive. I don't think people understand how serious getting robbed at gunpoint is. Living in DC/MD I knew the streets well enough to NEVER get caught slippin. I never carried a gun, because at the time I was living there I was young, but when I move back best believe that will be my bestfriend for where ever I have to go in the ...(more)

(In some Chicago Police Dept. precinct.........)

Detective: "So, Mr. Harrison, where exactly where you at 2:00 AM on the night of May 4, 2008?"

Marvin: "Well sir, me and my new BFF, Adam Jones, were just finishing up a very busy and emotional evening.  We had talked an associate, Terrell ...(more)

Wow, I was reading just a few posts about this story.  A few dozen jokes about a guy getting robbed at gunpoint - I guess we really do not see these guys as people any more.  The truth is that they are human being just like us, but somehow, we have lost sight of that.  Imagine if the world knew about every time YOU got in trouble as a kid, or every keg party you went to as an und ...(more)

Incidents just like this!!!

These fools out here on the streets are just waiting to hit you up when they know you've got a lot money. As much as fans like to hear and agrue about player's salaries, it's really a shame how their finances are disclosed so publicly. They have no financial privacy. And all it takes is for one knuckle-head out on the streets to know it and t ...(more)

What is wrong with these players? Suddenly you have Marvin Harrison... yes the Colts Harrison owning cop killer guns and ammo. You have players only three days into their pro career and they are sleeping through practice. Then you have a heated running back battle brewi ...(more)
