Ex-Cowboys, Cards RB Hambrick sentenced to five years in prison

TAMPA, Fla. -- A Tampa judge Tuesday sentenced former NFL running back Troy Hambrick to five years in prison for selling crack cocaine.

The former Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals player was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Steven D. Merryday.

Hambrick pleaded guilty on Feb. 26 to one count of distributing 50 grams or more of crack cocaine.

Court documents show Hambrick sold the drugs in 2007 to confidential informants near his home in Lacoochee, about 40 miles north of Tampa.

Hambrick's NFL career spanned five seasons. His best year was 2003 when he rushed for 972 yards and five touchdowns for Dallas.

I thought Hambrick annointed himself as the heir as the successor to Emmitt Smith in Dallas.

At least Cecil the Diesel has someone to talk to now.

Wasn't it T. Hambrick who made this quote when he did not show up for the off-season workout?..............Well I think he is about to find out that anything "voluntary" should not be taken for granted...............LOL

It was pretty clear that he ...(more)

Remember Irvin got busted with a crack pipe in his car in 2006 and then he said "ohh that belongs to my brother". Then they found out it wasn't his brothers (I don't even think he has a brother). Then Irvin was like, "Nah I didn't mean my actual brother, I meant brother as in my friend". Could Hambrick be that friend or "brother"?

And other than that, why wasn't more made of this? I know he was low profile, but I actually am proud of the media for not turning a pro athlete's trial (especially on something as serious as distribution of crack) into a circus.

Way to go, guys! Now shut the hell up about OJ Mayo already.

the NFL does not gaurentee their contracts to players... thats why they have a lot of ex-athletes who have to resort to selling drugs when their career is over because they don't have the gaurenteed millions that scrubs like barry zito and bobby simmons make in the nba and mlb, where contracts are guarenteed.

granted it was a dumb move on his part, but most guys in the NFL leave
