They are the players who got little attention during the draft, and some who weren't drafted at all.

But some players taken by Kansas City on the little-heralded second day of draft, and at least one player signed several days later as an undrafted free agent, should have a shot at significant playing time.

Heading that list is Tennessee tight end Brad Cottam, a massive (6-7, 269-pound) blocking specialist who was Kansas City's second of three draft picks in the third round.

Cottam may have caught only 21 passes in four seasons with the Volunteers, but the Chiefs didn't draft him as the ultimate heir apparent to Tony Gonzalez. Rather, they saw an accomplished blocker who might fill a void left by the release of veteran free agent blocking tight end Jason Dunn. Cottam definitely has a place in the two-tight end formations new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey will employ often.

An even more unheralded player signed after the draft already has a place in Gailey's heart, if not on his penciled-in depth chart.

Fullback Mike Cox, an undrafted free agent signing, played three seasons under Gailey at Georgia Tech. He's already well versed on Gailey's system and terminology, and thus might be able to make a quick impact for a team that tried to fill its fullback spot with a converted tight end and a converted linebacker over the past two seasons.

Gailey has said he wants a true fullback blocking for Larry Johnson. He has at least one true NFL fullback on the roster. The Chiefs obtained Oliver Hoyte, who played in 22 games for Dallas, off waivers in the offseason.

Pat Kirwan just posted an interesting article on the www.nfl.com website.  I believe it is entitled "Super-Sized" or something like that.

It is about offenses reverting to the power running game to take advantage of the current trend of smaller, quicker defenses, including two (blocking) tightend sets, big lineman, a bruising fullback  ...(more)

If any of you have read some of my other posts, you know that I don't think the Chargers are one of the elite teams.  I believe they are solid, but merely average, and have given many reasons why.  I also believe the Chiefs will bounce back considerably this year, an ...(more)

Last season (if my memory serves), the Chiefs roster had an average age of just over 30.

Taking a look at the roster a few days ago, and prior to undrafted free agent signings - which only makes the roster younger - the 70 players had an average age of 25.6.  In fact, there are only 9 players who are 30 years of age o ...(more)

Very very hard. G. Dorsey is a very big and very fast player who quickly gets off the ball and isn't scared to make a play . I would'nt be supprised too see if he is the player of the game, in  the first game of the year.

I'm starting to think this year, the offence could be more exciting too watch than the last few. I love the tripple threat at RB, and WR is getti ...(more)

What are the top 3 things that - standing alone - could determine whether the Chiefs are in the playoff hunt or completely out of it?  I rank them in the following order:

1.  Brodie Croyle:  Even if LJ gets hurt again we have Smith & Char

I know this is a Chiefs board, but were in the time off year that it is a football droubt.  We're getting into the heart of race season.  I was just wondering if there are any Jr fans on here.  If so what are some of your thoughts on his season after the switch to Hendrick.

I personally love the move, bu ...(more)
