Eagles report: Notes, quotes
--The Eagles will spend three weeks at their Lehigh University training camp this summer, which is a week longer than last year. Rookies are scheduled to report on July 21, with veterans due in on the 24th. The team will break camp on August 13 and continue two-a-days after that at their training facility in south Philadelphia. --One of the Eagles' offseason focuses was improving their special teams. Several of their offseason acquisitions, including linebacker Rocky Boiman, defensive end Chris Clemons, fullback Dan Klecko and tight end Kris Wilson, are solid special teamers. "From a free agent standpoint, guys like Rocky and Clemons, we've been able to evaluate them in NFL games and we kind of know where they are at this point," special teams coordinator Rory Segrest said. "It's just a matter of learning our system. Any time you have rookies coming in, half of them have never been on special teams. So they're learning from square one. With the veteran guys we signed, we've got some good talent to work with. I'm excited about this group." --Punter Sav Rocca, the former Aussie Rules footballer, struggled with consistency in his first season with the Eagles. But he looked good in the Eagles' recent minicamp, booming punt after long punt. His directional punting also was sharp. "Sav has come a long way," Segrest said. "I think the difference between last year and this year is that last year, he was just feeling his way through. He didn't really trust in his techniques thoroughly. He didn't quite understand how to make those corrections. This year, when he hits a bad ball, he knows what he did wrong and turns around and hits a good ball. I think that's the thing we're going to see this year. He knows how to make those corrections, and I think he'll get them made." QUOTE TO NOTE Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange.
