Gillies' next goal: NHL debut: The Sports Xchange reports after winning a gold medal with Team Canada at the World Junior Championships, Wild 2007 first-round pick Colton Gillies, the captain and leading goal scorer for the WHL Saskatoon Blades, says his next goal is to make the Wild next fall. Gillies, a 6-foot-4, 194-pound center who turns 19 in February, was one of the team's final roster cuts in September. "It was unbelievable to be there that long," Gillies said. "I learned so much from the coaches, and the players really took me under their wing. It definitely benefited me. I know the Wild have a history of putting young prospects on the team. I set goals for myself, and one of my goals going into next year is to be up there."

Fantasy Analysis
Wild assistant GM Tommy Thompson says, "The chance is there. He's got to knock out the heavyweight champ, but what works in his favor is he doesn't have to score to earn his keep. He's big, he's strong, he can skate and we know he's not scared." He won't be with the Wild this season, but remains a decent long-term keeper.
