Team spokesman Alex Gilchrist says the star defenseman will play out the final year of his four-year, $6.75 million contract. Last season, the 34-year-old Niedermayer didn't return until December after the team won the Stanley Cup in June. Niedermayer has spent 16 years in the NHL.
