The death of majority owner John H. McConnell on April 25 cast a pall over the city of Columbus and the Blue Jackets.

McConnell, an American business icon for revolutionizing the steel industry, was 84 years old.

A memorial service held on May 7 brought a crowd of 4,261 to Nationwide Arena, including NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and several Blue Jackets players and coaches.

The NHL would not have come to central Ohio not for McConnell, Bettman said.

"He probably would have liked it if we won more often," said Blue Jackets left winger Rick Nash in his eulogy, "and we will, Mr. Mac, I promise.

"We know you'll be with us when we hit the ice next season."

SEASON HIGHLIGHT
A six-game point streak in late October and early November helped the Blue Jackets to an 8-3-2 start that was the best in franchise history. At that point, Pascal Leclaire was the hottest goaltender in the league, and the Blue Jackets were scoring just enough to be successful.

TURNING POINT
Leclaire had to cool off eventually. When he did, and when backup Fredrik Norrena couldn't deliver, the Blue Jackets' scoring woes because magnified. They had no margin for error. A 2-6-3 record coming out of the All-Star Game break spelled doom.

C'mon..   10 straight years of this crap??   never a sniff of the playoffs??  Yet a great fan base, incrediable arena/atmosphere, and local TV & radio support for this???

I'm done with the home team.

It's run badly from the top down.

I sit here and make it a point to watch almost every BJ's game i can!  I have been a fan since I first found out the NHL gave us a franchise.  The show they have given us from day one has been pathetic!  I don't fall for that whole "were building for the future" crap anymore!  I watch this team that has no team chemistry, no body knows what the other players a ...(more)

Lets see here, Fedorov to the Caps for Theo Ruth, and Adam Foote to the Avalanche for a 1st round pick (either '08 or '09). Anyone know what the Jackets are trying to acheive here?

I know Fedorov has been injured, and is getting up there in years, but F ...(more)

Rick Nash became The Jackets new Captain. I think this is a good move considering he is the face of this franchise. Its good for the future but wont have much of an impact this year. The only bad thing is that the Jackets always seem to find a way to get rid of their captains after a few season. Hope that doesnt happen with nash ...(more)

Just saw where Brad Richards scored 5 points in his Dallas debut. This is why the Jackets continue to disgust myself and other paying fans. Every year, same story, same apologies and the same assurance this team is moving in the right direction. That's just one big LOAD OF CRAP. Teams that want to progress to the playoffs should ...(more)

The CBJ deserve a do-over on the expansion draft.  Just clear out the lockers and start over.  They got a nice building and everyone has a great time, until the puck drops.  The fans deserve better.

What's the worst that could happen?  You wind up with a bunch of geezers five years past their prime and another bunch of fragile kids with no e ...(more)

If Leclaire is out for a long time then the Jackets are going to have a really rough time. We cant win games when we have them let alone when we dont. Does anyone no the extent to his injuries?

Nationwide Arena Is absolutely fantastic!  I've been up to a couple of games this year and that place is outstanding.  The atmosphere is as good as it gets for hockey.  I live about an hour and a half away in Cincinnati but will happily drive to many more games the rest of this year and next year as well.

If the Jackets make the playoffs this year...I can't wait t ...(more)

Just wanted to let all of you know that Cartoon Superstar Scooby Doo will be at Nationwide for the game on sunday Feb 10th vs the Kings. I heard he will be singing right along with Bush the song "Machinehead" when the Jackets take the ice. I also heard that cotton candy will be sold for half price for everyone that is sitting i ...(more)

I dont understand how they could end up dropping 3 games in a row. They were playing very well before the break but now its just terrible. Maybe the players are worried about the trade deadline comming up but either way they need to start to play or they are going to miss the playoff again.
