--Coach Joel Quenneville will not be back next season. The Avalanche announced May 9 that it was a mutual decision between team officials and Quenneville. The reason: Team officials want to pick up the team's tempo, and they want a new coach to do it.

--The Avalanche needs plenty of improvement when it comes to special teams. Colorado scored only 49 power-play goals for a 14.6 percent success rate, the third-worst figure in the NHL. It was the first time the team failed to crack the top 10 in power-play percentage since it arrived in Denver for the 1995-96 season. The penalty-killing units didn't fare much better, finishing 20th in the league with an 81.4 percent success rate. The Avalanche scored two short-handed goals, tied for the fewest in the NHL.

--The Avalanche dominated on home ice while winning Stanley Cups in 1996 and 2001 and posted a 27-12-2 record at the Pepsi Center in 2007-08. Colorado ranked third in the NHL in home wins and fourth in home points with 56. The Avalanche won nine of its final 10 regular-season home games.

--The Avalanche tied New Jersey for the most wins (eight) when trailing after two periods. Colorado went 8-22-2 in that situation. The Avalanche went 3-19-1 in 2006-07 when trailing after 40 minutes and 2-22-3 in 2005-06.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I thought there was a lot to be excited about over the course of the year." -- Avalanche coach Joel Quenneville, who nevertheless will not return as coach next season.

But as a Wings fan, than you for taking out the Wild, I was more worried about them than I was about your Avalanche team.

At this point, Forsberg is washed up. Get rid of him, he is worthless to you.

Today the Avalanche parted ways with Joe Quennville! This makes me excited because i felt that Coach Q was underachieving his entire tenior in Colorado.

Tell me what you think of the firing of Coach Q.

Hey Milenko and other Avs fans, you like that whooping!  Does it feel good?!??!? Do you like being OWNED.  I'd be embarassed to be an Avs fan with that pathetic showing all year against Detroit.  Maybe a move back to QUEBEC would help!

A lot of people on this site, including myself, have been blaming Jose and Joel for a less than accepable performance against the dirtwings. i still say its on them, but some other areas to point at should be evaluated as well. First is defense, both personel and coach whom i believe is jacques cloutier. i think they're really over rated. all these "physical" guys dont really look all th ...(more)

FOR ANOTHER TEAM!!!!

I'm not saying it was all his fault by any means, but seriously, what the heck?  I think he has clouded Pierre's good decision making ever since they traded for him.  Perhaps they should make a trade for Ellis from Nashville.  He played very well this season as an up and comer.  He also has ties to the West, he played for the

(POLL)     Waiting for the conference semifinals is exciting. Right now there is 1 team I don't want to play and no matter what happens, we won't have to play them. If Calgary wins, it is Colorado vs Dallas, and if SJ wins, it is Colorado vs Detroit.
Detroit or Dallas will be rough and I would love to see Detroit in the Conference Finals because that is wh

Seems the Montreal Canadians were right about getting rid of Theodore,  his overall record for a goalie is 183-197-30-10 and his playoff record is a pathetic  19-25. Sure hope the Avs have a minor league goalie awaiting in the wings or maybe they should Draft one, because Theodore and Budaj sure looked like a deer in the headlights tonight.

We are the Colorado Avalanche now, Qbec lost their team because there was no fan ba ...(more)

So the Avs will face the hated redwings in the second round of the playoffs.  A lot of people were hoping for Dallas, but with San Jose's win, they will get Detroit.  Let's see if the old rivalry can be rekindled.   And by the way, if you thought the Minny fans were bad on here, wait till this series gets going.  Hockey is the only good thing going for the entire city of D ...(more)
