Undefeated New England Patriots put charge in "The NFL on CBS" rating for its coverage of 2008 AFC Championship game
Patriots-Chargers rating up 5 percent from last year's comparable window
CBS Sports' coverage of the 2008 AFC Championship Game featuring the undefeated New England Patriots defeating the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, Jan. 20, earned an average overnight household rating/share of 27.4/48, up 5 percent from a 26.2/45 in the comparable early-game window last year which saw Chicago beat New Orleans in overtime. "The NFL on CBS'" coverage was down only 2 percent compared to its late-game broadcast of last year's AFC Championship Game which saw Indianapolis beat New England (28.1/40).
Yesterday's AFC Championship game on CBS is the second-highest rating for the game in the metered markets on CBS since the Network re-acquired the NFL in 1998, trailing only last year's Pats-Colts game.
This year's AFC Championship Game rating peaked at a 30.6/51 from 5:30-6 p.m., ET.
