Titans report: Notes, quotes
--Tennessee offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger said he was completely on board with the first-round selection of running back Chris Johnson even though the Titans also needed a wide receiver. "We could have had any receiver but 31 teams passed up receivers until the second round," Heimerdinger said. "(Johnson) was on our board, the top guy at that time on offense. So you stick to the board, and he was the top-rated guy on offense. He gives us some weapons and he can help us." --With only 16 healthy players at the Titans' practice sessions during rookie orientation, the Titans were confined to position-specific work. Without a quarterback among their seven draft picks or 10 undrafted rookies, administrative assistant Richie Wessman did a lot of the throwing. Fourth-round pick Lavelle Hawkins, who went to Cal, gave Wessman a good review. Until he was told Wessman was a walk-on quarterback at USC. "He's a Trojan?" Hawkins said. "Ah, he was horrible." --Seventh-round cornerback Cary Williams was assigned Pacman Jones' old locker. Undrafted rookie free agent running back Rafael Little, who will miss this season as he rehabs a knee injury suffered at the Senior Bowl, was initially given Jones old No. 32, but Jeff Fisher had him take it off at a rookie orientation practice. "He's not going to be wearing that," Fisher said. "We had discussed it this morning and for some reason someone told him to get dressed and come out. But that won't be his number. ... He'd prefer to wear a different number than 32 and you can read into it all you want." --Quarterback Vince Young is finished with his school work at Texas and should be around Titans headquarters for the remainder of the offseason.
